Summer fun, creative projects and much more

July has been another wonderful month at Newbury Manor Care Home, with residents making the most of the warmer weather while staying safe, comfortable and busy with a fantastic variety of activities that have brought creativity, laughter and companionship to every corner of the home.

Despite the hot temperatures, our residents have embraced the summer with enthusiasm, taking part in carefully planned activities designed to keep everyone engaged while ensuring they remained cool and well looked after.

One project that has captured plenty of attention has been the transformation of one of our garden benches. Keen to get stuck into something practical and make use of their skills, several of our gentlemen have been hard at work giving the bench a new lease of life. It has been wonderful to watch the project take shape, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication and craftsmanship.

Another activity that has quickly become a firm favourite is Giant Snakes and Ladders. The oversized game has provided plenty of entertainment, friendly competition and laughter, with John proudly claiming victory during one particularly exciting match. The enjoyment on everyone's faces made it an easy decision to add the game to our regular activities calendar, where it is now set to become a weekly fixture.

Our intergenerational activities continue to grow in popularity and this month we were delighted to welcome back a very special young visitor. Coby, the grandson of one of our team members, made his second visit to the home and spent time with his adopted Newbury aunties and uncles. Residents love watching him explore, play and grow, and we are delighted that he will become a regular visitor in the months ahead. These visits create meaningful connections between generations, bringing enormous joy to everyone involved while helping to build friendships that are truly special.

Alongside all the fun and activities, we have also been celebrating the achievements of several members of our team who successfully completed the Nurse Assistants Course as part of our Flourish training programme. This fantastic accomplishment reflects their dedication, professionalism and commitment to delivering the highest standards of care. By continuing to invest in learning and development, we strengthen our team while ensuring residents receive outstanding support every day. Congratulations to everyone who completed the course. We are incredibly proud of all that you have achieved.

As August begins, we are looking forward to welcoming residents, families, friends and members of the local community to our annual Summer Fete, taking place from 11am until 4pm on Saturday 1st August. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, including a tombola, raffle, glitter tattoos, antique stall, bric a brac, chocolate fountain and plenty more family friendly entertainment throughout the day. We are also delighted that the local Mayor will officially open this year's event, making it an occasion not to be missed. We look forward to seeing as many familiar and new faces as possible for what promises to be another fantastic community celebration.
